The band were hoping to have the record completed prior to their US summer tour, which kicks off later in the spring but Joe Perry tells Billboard.com that following Steven Tyler’s recent bout of pneumonia the band won’t make their deadline.
"(We) realized there wasn't any chance of getting it finished before we hit the road for the summer. So basically we had to push (the album) back, and when the band gets off the road, that's when we'll pick up the Aerosmith record."
Perry also revealed that the Boston rockers will be touring with ZZ Top on their US dates and that they are also in talks about a European leg later in the year, with details to be announced soon.
And thanks to the delay, it seems that we may see a new Perry solo effort – a follow up to his Grammy nominated 2005 self-titled effort - sooner rather than later.
“I have a big chunk of time before the tour, so I'm gonna try to get the solo record done as soon as I can,” Perry says. “Chances are you're gonna be hearing that before you hear an Aerosmith record...'cause I expect the Aerosmith tour, God willing, to continue through the fall.”
